Lavrov warned of a possible increase in NATO forces near Russia

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov believes that there is reason to believe that in the coming months NATO will begin to increase its forces near Russia under the pretext of the inevitable escalation of the situation in Ukraine, writes the Russian newspaper "Izvestia".

"We have reason to believe that these loud statements that are now being heard from the West that if Russia does not comply with the demands of the West on how to move its troops on its territory, which is absurd in itself, then in the next two "In three months, the West will increase the activity of the rapid reaction force, the NATO special operations force around our borders," he told a news conference.

"They want to create strongholds around the Russian Federation, military strongholds, they want to constantly create irritants for us, around our borders. "Once again, I would like to draw your attention to what I started with - read the Charter for European Security, adopted in Istanbul in 1999. Everything that the West is now declaring and doing is a gross breach of its commitments," he concluded.

The minister also pointed out that the US and NATO plans to "wrap up" the process of guaranteeing Russia's security. He stressed that the situation is not improving, the potential for conflict is accumulating. According to Lavrov, "such a negative development" is strongly encouraged by the West.
