I can hope that this fifth wave will be the last

The fifth wave of the coronavirus pandemic in France may be the latest. This was stated by the Minister of Health of the country Olivier Veran in an interview with the Journal du dimanche.

"The Omicron strain is highly contagious. I predicted that in early 2022, the number of people infected per day could reach 250,000. We are close to that figure," he said. "This strain will affect the entire population of the world, but its spread will increase immunity: after this strain we will all become more resistant to infection," the minister said. "We hope that the fifth wave of the pandemic will be the last," he added.

"You need to understand that you can still be infected with coronavirus after three doses of the vaccine, but the risk of your hospitalization is ten times lower than that of an unvaccinated or partially vaccinated person," the minister continued.

According to the Minister of Health, the French government has decided to change the rules for isolating fully vaccinated people. As of January 3, with a positive coronavirus test, the duration of self-isolation of fully vaccinated people has been reduced from 10 to seven days. In the event of a negative test, the quarantine may be terminated after five days. "Those who have not been vaccinated will have to be isolated for ten days, with possible quarantine removal after seven days if the test is negative," Veran added.
