"Only 874 cars" caught fire on New Year's Eve in France


 

 French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanen noted with satisfaction that New Year's Eve in the country passed peacefully, thanks to the vigilance of nearly 130,000 police, gendarmerie and civil security officers who were on duty. He clarified that on the eve of 2022, "only 874 cars" were set on fire in the country - much less than in 2019, writes the national daily Le Figaro.

In his statement, the minister noted with satisfaction the reduction in the number of burning cars on New Year's Eve, the newspaper notes. There are 874 vehicles on fire this year, compared to 1,316 damaged in 2019.

 According to a source from the police in Paris, where the obligatory wearing of masks on the streets was again introduced, 779 people were fined for not wearing a protective mask on Friday night against Saturday. According to the police prefecture in Paris, 185 people were detained in the capital and its suburbs.
