Austrian Chancellor Karl Nechamer has tested positive for coronavirus, his office said on Friday, adding that he was in isolation and showed no symptoms, Reuters reports.
"You don't have to worry, I'm fine and I'm doing well," Nehamer was quoted as saying by his office.
The infection apparently occurred on Wednesday night due to contact with a member of his security team, who gave a positive test on Thursday, the office said in a statement.
Nehamer, a Conservative who has been vaccinated three times, will work from home via video and telephone conferences and will not attend public meetings for the next few days. Nehamer's wife and children tested negative, the office said.
The news came after 49-year-old Nehamer announced new measures Thursday to curb the spread of the pandemic, and continued with plans to make vaccinations mandatory in Austria next month.
