The issue of Nord Stream 2 is now in the hands of the German regulator

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell will not discuss Nord Stream 2 during a visit to Kiev on January 4th-6th. "The issue of Nord Stream 2 is now in the hands of the German regulator," Borel said in an interview with PAP when asked if he intended to raise the issue of talks in Kiev.

Borrell also said that his visit to Ukraine, during which he intends to visit the conflict zone in Donbass together with the first diplomat of Kiev Dmitry Kuleba, "should emphasize the strong support of the European Union for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine."

"The EU has provided unprecedented 17 billion euros in aid to Ukraine since 2014," Borel said. "The EU stands ready to continue providing other types of financial support, such as the already approved € 31 million package to strengthen the armed forces, in particular their cyber defense capabilities."

In an interview, the diplomat reiterated that the EU is ready to impose severe sanctions on the Russian Federation in the event of alleged military aggression against Ukraine. He stressed that the situation in Ukraine "should not be discussed without the participation of Kiev."

He also recalled the importance of the Association Agreement, which has already brought "significant bonuses to the peoples of Ukraine and the EU", as well as the need to continue reforms in Ukraine.
