Stopping Nord Stream 2 will be a risk to Europe's natural gas supplies

The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is important for Europe and the hypothetical shutdown of the project poses risks to the energy supply of the Old Continent. This was warned by the CEO of the energy company Uniper Klaus-Dieter Maubach in an interview with the German newspaper Das Rheinische Post.

Nord Stream 2 is an important project. Stopping it would be an economic risk for us and a risk for gas supplies in Europe. Those who are politically responsible should know this, "Maubach added.

"Germany covers 90% of its gas needs through imports, half of which comes from Russia," he said.

Maubach also stressed that the certification of Nord Stream 2 in Germany is in accordance with the necessary procedures and may be completed by mid-year. "I do not see any political influence, the Federal Network Agency is carrying out inspections as expected. "By mid-2022, certification can be completed," he said.
