Almaty deputy mayor reports "hotbeds of fierce resistance"

Almaty Deputy Mayor Erzhan Babakumarov said there were outbreaks of fierce resistance in the city, quoted by Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

"Extremists are still offering armed resistance. There is stabilization, but there are outbreaks of fierce resistance," he told Khabar 24.

Kazakhstan's Sputnik news agency previously reported fighting in the Almaty suburbs on the highway to the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, near the village of Raimbek. However, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan does not confirm this information.

For his part, acting Kazakh Interior Minister Erlan Turgumbayev said nearly 300 people with weapons tried to leave Kazakhstan but were detained at the border.
