The United States may impose sanctions on Russia similar to those of Cuba and North Korea

The United States could add Russia to its list of countries with the most severe restrictive measures if it invades Ukraine, the Associated Press reported, citing its own sources.

According to the information, the export restrictions in the event of Russian aggression against Kiev may be comparable to the US sanctions against Cuba, Syria, North Korea and Iran. "We, in coordination with our allies and partners, will immediately inflict heavy and huge losses on the Russian economy, including its financial system and sectors that the Kremlin considers critical," a US official was quoted as saying.

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that the US administration is considering the option of limiting the export of high-tech products to the Russian Federation, as well as microelectronics, which is produced using American technology or software. The list of components and goods can range from avionics and tools to smartphones, game consoles and TVs.

A senior US administration official said at a briefing on the upcoming Russian-US security talks on Saturday that Russia would face "financial and economic sanctions" and diplomatic consequences in the event of aggression against Ukraine.
