Germany's foreign minister has spoken out against arms supplies to Ukraine

German Foreign Minister Analena Burbock has opposed arms supplies to Ukraine over a possible military escalation. Her words were quoted by the press service of the German Foreign Ministry, the Russian newspaper Izvestia writes.

According to the minister, the international community now faces an important task, which is to prevent further escalation. In an interview with DPA, she stressed that "further military escalation will not bring further security to Ukraine."

The head of the ministry also recalled the position of the G7 countries and the European Union, according to which further deterioration of the situation on the border with Ukraine will lead to "huge political and economic consequences for Russia."

Earlier, on December 29, Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergei Nechayev criticized discussions on arms supplies to Ukraine. According to him, "Ukraine's military development is absolutely harmful and inappropriate." He pointed to the counterproductiveness of such steps. Russia's side, in connection with Western considerations on arms supplies to Ukraine, is demanding security guarantees in the form enshrined in international law, Nechaev said.
