In an interview with Le Parisien on Tuesday night, French President Emmanuel Macron acknowledged his intention to "irritate" the unvaccinated in an attempt to force them to change their decision to use a COVID-19 drug. And all this against the background of his assurances that the introduction of compulsory vaccination is not "for", commented in the editorial office of the Spanish national daily El Pais.
In an interview, Macron confirmed his main strategy to combat the coronavirus pandemic: vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate and make the lives of the unvaccinated unhappy until they change their minds. Or, more literally, "irritating" those who continue to resist getting vaccinated to protect themselves and others. With the choice of this verb, which - according to the editorial board - can never be perceived as elegant, the French president drew sharp criticism.
"I am not in favor of irritating the French. I complain all day when the management does it. But, hey, I really want to irritate the unvaccinated. And I will continue to do so to the end. This is the strategy. I will not put them in jail and I will not vaccinate them by force. But they have to be told: from January 15, you will no longer be able to go to a restaurant, you will not be able to drink or go to the theater, you will not be able to go to the cinema. .. ", the president explained regarding the bill, which was still being discussed in the parliament until Tuesday.
Currently, about five million French people continue to refuse to inject themselves with coronavirus, although vaccination is now available to anyone over the age of five. On the same day that Macron spoke to seven Le Parisien readers who asked him specific questions, France broke a new record for infections - 271,686 newly infected in 24 hours.
