Russia expects a definite UN response to "Pristina's arbitrariness"

The online edition of the Belgrade daily Novosti published a statement by Moscow Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, stressing that Russia expects an "adequate and definite UN response" to Pristina's "arbitrariness" over declaring Russian UNMIK persona non grata officer.

Zakharova said declaring the Russian UNMIK official persona non grata was a continuation of Pristina's provocations aimed at tightening interethnic relations in the region, discrediting the UN and Russia's constructive role in the Balkans. She condemned any attempt to limit the activities or push the UN mission out of Kosovo "by taking aggressive steps that could run counter to the spirit and letter of UN Security Council Resolution 1244".

"The desire of the Kosovo authorities to get rid of those who can objectively notice the destructive policy of Pristina, which is conducted in the areas of the province where Serbs live, is obvious," the publication quoted Zaharova as saying.

"We expect Pristina's arbitrariness to meet with an appropriate and definite response from the UN leadership," Zaharova concluded.

Kosovo Foreign Minister Donika Gervala Schwartz announced on December 31st that at the request of Prime Minister Albin Kurti, she had decided to declare a Russian UNMIK official a persona non grata because of "his harmful activities that violated Kosovo's security".
