NATO and Russia ready to resume missions in Moscow and Brussels, but differences over Ukraine and European security remain

Russia and NATO are ready to resume their missions in Moscow and Brussels, but disagreements over Ukraine and European security remain. This was stated by the Secretary General of the Alliance Jens Stoltenbreg at a press conference after the end of the meeting of the Russia-NATO Council on Wednesday in Brussels. The alliance refuses to compromise on enlargement and only the 30 member states of the North Atlantic Alliance can decide whether a country will join or not, TASS reports.

Stoltenberg noted that a complex discussion was held at a key moment for European security. According to him, NATO and Russia will spare no effort to find ways to move forward in de-escalation.

The two sides now intend to hold new confidence-building meetings, increase the transparency of military exercises, new cybersecurity and arms control, the alliance's secretary general said.

In particular, as Jens Stoltenberg said, Russia and NATO have agreed to hold a series of meetings to reach an agreement on mutually verifiable restrictions on missile weapons in Europe.

"All members agree on the basic principle: that each country has the right to choose its own path ... Allies also agree that only Ukraine and the 30 allies can decide when Ukraine will be ready to join NATO, no one another. "Russia cannot veto Ukraine's accession to NATO," said Jens Stoltenberg.
