Nearly 25% of the EU's energy is produced by nuclear power plants

In 2020, 13 Member States will produce nearly 25% of the EU's total electricity production from nuclear energy, according to new data released by Eurostat on Tuesday, the EU Observer reports.

The largest producer is France, followed by Germany, Spain and Sweden. In 2020, 109 nuclear reactors were operating in the EU, but this year three reactors were shut down permanently. Only France and Slovakia produce more than half of their electricity from nuclear power plants.
