Russia-US consultations have begun in Geneva

Russian-American consultations on security guarantees have begun in Geneva, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports.

The talks are held in a closed format, and no time frame has been set for them. The parties may request pauses.

The preliminary part of the negotiations in the form of a working dinner had already taken place the day before. After the meeting, Ryabkov said the conversation was "difficult but business-like".

As the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation noted earlier, Russia's position in the negotiations with the United States on security guarantees is clear, the American side must prepare for concessions. "The United States must prepare for compromise. The Russian side came here with a clear position, which contains a number of elements, in my opinion, quite understandable and formulated so clearly, including at the highest level, that there can simply be no deviations from our approaches, "he said on Russian public television.

In an interview with RIA Novosti, Ryabkov also noted that Washington wants to restore the work of the NATO-Russia Council under conditions unacceptable to Moscow.

According to the diplomat, Russia "would like to reach an agreement with the United States and test the extent to which they are able to make responsible decisions in the current difficult, if not alarming, momentum from the point of view of European security."
