The oldest woman in the world is 119 years old

Japan's Kane Tanaka, recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's oldest woman, is celebrating her 119th birthday on Sunday, Kyodo reports.

Tanaka lives in a nursing home in Fukuoka Prefecture and does not have many opportunities to meet with relatives due to restrictions due to the coronavirus.

The Japanese woman was born on January 2, 1903. Her husband and eldest son were killed during World War II. Tanaka has worked all her life in a rice husk shop opened before the war. After retiring in the 1970s, she traveled to the United States several times.

Since 2005, she has lived in a nursing home in Fukuoka. Tanaka gets up early, loves to play board games and doesn't give up on sweet things. At the age of 103, the Japanese woman had a malignant tumor removed, and since then she has not been bothered by other serious diseases.

According to official data from the Guinness Book of Records, the absolute record for longevity belongs to the Frenchwoman Jeanne Kalman. At the time of her death in August 1997, she was 122 years and 164 days old.
