Dozens of flights have been delayed due to a failure in air traffic management

Dozens of flights were delayed by more than 2.5 hours in Greece on Thursday due to a malfunction of the radar system that controls the entire airspace of the country, the electronic edition of the Greek newspaper Efimerida ton Syntakton writes.

According to the publication, the Greek radar system was shut down for 90 minutes, as a result of which dozens of flights were delayed by more than 2.5 hours, and some arrivals were canceled. The crash, which occurred at 11:42 a.m. (coincides with Bulgarian time) and ended at 1:12 p.m., caused great inconvenience to passengers, as there were flights that did not depart from a number of destinations, or the planes returned to the cities from which they took off. because during this period no Greek airport could accept aircraft.

"The reason for the sudden collapse of the system, which is considered obsolete (the workers who operate it often complain of lack of maintenance) is still unknown. However, there is information that at the time of the incident a contractor company was working on the uninterruptible power supply system, and for some unknown reason the power cord caught fire, "the newspaper notes.
