NATO does not even accept the idea that Russia can have its own sphere of influence

NATO finds unacceptable even the idea that Russia can have its own sphere of influence, as all its neighbors are sovereign states. This was stated by the Secretary General of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg at a press conference after the meeting of the foreign ministers of the countries of the organization, reports TACC.

"The very wording of the question reflects the thesis that should arouse suspicion in our country, and which is unacceptable. This is the thesis that Russia has a sphere of interests. This means the real recognition that Russia can control what its neighbors do, and they are sovereign states, "Stoltenberg said, answering a question about NATO's geopolitical invasion of Russia's historical sphere of influence.

NATO countries could use "financial and economic sanctions and political bans" against Russia if force is used in Ukraine, the Norwegian added.

"NATO countries have a wide range of options, including economic and financial sanctions and political bans," he said.

At the same time, Stoltenberg recalled that "the principle of collective security applies only to NATO member states", while the organization's partners, such as Kiev, can only rely on the support of the Alliance.

According to the Secretary General, NATO will actively contribute to the creation of military capabilities of Ukraine and Georgia so that they can defend themselves. "NATO will actively contribute to the creation of military capabilities for Ukraine and Georgia, which will enable them to defend themselves. We conduct exercises, ensure the exchange of information, supply equipment, and also support the reform process, "Stoltenberg explained.
