Putin has said he will not allow NATO to expand eastward

Russia and its partners will insist that it is unacceptable for NATO to continue expanding to the East and seek legal guarantees, President Vladimir Putin said at a ceremony of presenting credentials to ambassadors, Vzglyad reported.

Speaking to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I have already emphasized that our diplomacy now faces the main task of striving to provide Russia with reliable and long-term security guarantees. "In dialogue with the United States and its allies, we will push for the development of concrete agreements that preclude any further NATO advance in the East and the deployment of weapons systems that threaten us in the immediate vicinity of the Russian Federation," the Russian leader said.

Earlier, the head of state proposed starting talks on non-expansion of NATO to the east. Putin stressed that Russia is interested in the successful work of diplomats and is ready to cooperate.
