The Russian embassy is protesting against Germany's decision to expel diplomats

The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Berlin announced that it has strongly protested to the German Foreign Ministry over the country's decision to expel two Russian diplomats in connection with the murder of Georgian citizen Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, RIA Novosti reported.

Earlier in the day, the Berlin Supreme Court found Russian Vadim Sokolov (Krasikov) guilty of murdering Hangoshvili and sentenced him to life in prison. The defense claims that there is no evidence base, the decision on the appeal has not been made yet. Following the verdict, the German Foreign Ministry summoned Moscow's ambassador to the country, Sergei Nechaev, and announced the expulsion of two Russian diplomats, Foreign Minister Analena Berbok said.

"We confirm that on December 15, 2021, the Russian Ambassador to Germany was informed by the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany of the decision of the German authorities to declare two diplomatic employees of the Russian Embassy persona non grata. For our part, they announced a strong protest, emphasizing that such unmotivated actions are an obvious unfriendly step and will not be left without an appropriate reaction that will follow in the near future, "the embassy said in a comment to Russian journalists in Berlin.
