US considers sanctions against "Putin's entourage"

U.S. officials are considering imposing restrictions on Russia over the situation around Ukraine, the American news channel CNN reported.

According to television sources, the new sanctions include members of the inner circle of the head of state of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, energy producers, as well as the possible exclusion of the country from the SWIFT system (international interbank system for information transfer and payment).

It is noted that final decisions on the imposition of sanctions in general and in any timeframe have not yet been taken. The administration of US President Joe Biden is currently in talks with European partners to coordinate action.

Sources in the channel say it is also about economic sanctions, which are expected to be targeted at several sectors, including banking and energy. A high-ranking official of the US administration assured that there is a serious discussion about "cutting off" Russian energy producers from the markets "in case of invasion" in Ukraine. It is likely that the state debt of the Russian Federation will also be subject to restrictions.
