A protest against compulsory vaccination is being held in Vienna again

Mass protests against the decision of the Austrian authorities for mandatory vaccination against coronavirus, which should take effect in February 2022, began on Saturday in Vienna. Demonstrations in the Austrian capital are being held for the second consecutive weekend, the TASS correspondent reported.

Thousands gathered in the central Heldenplatz at noon. The opposition Austrian Freedom Party, whose leader Herbert Kickel is expected to deliver a speech, has called for peaceful protests. According to the organizers, tens of thousands of people will take part in the demonstrations again. More than 20 actions are planned in the city.

According to a police statement, 1,400 police officers from different parts of Austria are guarding the rallies. Traffic in central Vienna has been paralyzed by blocked roads for protesters.

In Austria, due to the fourth wave of the pandemic, a nationwide lockdown was introduced for all residents and restrictions on leaving home from November 22 to December 12. The blockade and the plan to introduce compulsory vaccinations in February 2022 proved unpopular in Austrian society and led to unprecedented mass protests.
