A series of earthquakes in the Pacific Ocean west of Oregon

On December 7 this year a series of earthquakes in the eastern part of the Pacific Ring has been reported. According to US Geological Survey, in the first 24 hours alone, the quake produced at least 50 quakes, the strongest of which were two with a magnitude of 5.8 - at 16:36 and 17:21 at the epicenter on December 7 (respectively at 04: 36 and 05:21 on December 8 in our country). Both earthquakes are very weak - intensity of II and III degree on a 12-point scale - in the states of Oregon (from the coast to Eugene and Springfield about 530 km east of the epicenter) and Washington (the town of La Center about 565 km east). northeast of the epicenter).

Scientists at the World Center in the United States believe that the described series of earthquakes is a product of the Blanco fault zone, located opposite the territory of Central Oregon in the Pacific Ocean. There, in the space of the two intersecting plates, the North American and the Pacific, horizontal movements have been established, which cause high seismic activity. Despite this activity, according to American scientists, the fault caused the earthquakes - the westernmost in the area, has no potential to cause a cataclysm - neither a tsunami nor a powerful earthquake.
