A significant rise in the price of coffee is expected

In Russia, and around the world, a significant rise in coffee prices is expected in the near future, writes the Russian newspaper "Izvestia".

"According to market participants, retail coffee will rise by 20-30%. At the same time, the maximum percentage will be for cheap varieties, for the" lowest "positions the price increase may reach 40%," the newspaper said.

According to analysts, this is due to problems with large exporters. Brazil is facing a record low harvest due to cold and drought. In Colombia, rains have destroyed part of the crop, and Ethiopia is on the brink of civil war. At the same time, there are labor shortages in all countries amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Among the factors influencing prices is the logistics crisis. The world lacks transport capacity, fuel prices are rising and demand for goods is only exacerbating the situation.

According to various experts, the above problems can lead to higher prices and deterioration of the quality of the drink.

"Already in the autumn, there were fears that against the background of high prices and supply problems, producers will begin to replace Arabica with cheaper and less tasty robusta," Izvestia writes.
