Christopher Hill will "encourage" Serbia to compromise with Pristina

The diplomat added that Washington, along with European partners, will continue to support Serbia's development as a modern and prosperous European country, "at peace with its neighbors."

 Hill was adamant that the United States supports Serbia's strategic goal of joining the EU, but said Belgrade needed to speed up "serious reforms" to meet Community standards. He added that the United States expects the EU to recognize the progress made and reaffirm that membership is still possible.

 The diplomat also assured that if his mandate is confirmed, he will promote transparency and fairness of the election process before the presidential elections in our western neighbor in April 2022, will emphasize the importance of media freedom and will strongly support the key role of civil society "The diverse political landscape and a free and independent press are key to Serbia's success as a European democracy," the paper said.

The United States supports Serbia's progress in key areas, such as fighting corruption, improving the rule of law and strengthening democratic institutions, the diplomat said.

 He said he would work to strengthen Serbia's economic future by promoting measures that strengthen the climate for international investment, strengthen the structure, improve energy diversification and security, and build resilience to "malignant external influences, including those from Russia and China".

As Serbia's ambassador, he said he would continue to support US companies exploring investment opportunities in the country. In addition, if his nomination is confirmed, he will further develop the "positive momentum" of the latest bilateral defense consultations in order to enhance mutually beneficial defense cooperation.
