Elon Musk was named "Person of the Year" by Time magazine. This was announced on Monday during a broadcast on the magazine's YouTube channel, TACC reports.
"This man has a tremendous impact on life on Earth and potentially life outside of it. From the existential crisis of climate change, from inequality to new frontiers, no one embodies this year's themes better than 2021 man - Elon Musk - announced the editor-in-chief of the magazine Eduard Felsenthal.
Since 1927, in December, Time has been named Person of the Year. His photo appears on the cover of the magazine. There are no specific criteria for awarding this title: it is believed that the one who has had the greatest impact on society during the year, whether positive or negative, is awarded.
"Person of the Year" is selected by the editorial board after pre-selection of candidates and discussions during which the employees of the magazine express their opinion. Initially, the title was "Man of the Year", several times the magazine announced "Woman of the Year". In 1999, this "title" was merged as "Person of the Year".
