The EU has not yet reached an agreement on enlargement conclusions ahead of a meeting of EU European affairs ministers. The dispute between Macedonia and Bulgaria is one of the main obstacles, but not the only one. quoted by Sloboden pechat.
Like last year, EU member states are again unable to agree on enlargement conclusions. If there are no conclusions, this will be the second consecutive year in which the EU cannot agree on this policy. This time, however, it is more likely that the Slovenian presidency will come up with conclusions and the names of the countries that support them, instead of having no conclusions, as was the case last year, diplomats in Brussels told MIA.
There are differences over Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina, not just Macedonia.
As for the Bulgarian-Macedonian dispute, Sofia insisted at a meeting last week that Macedonia "does not meet the criteria for starting negotiations", a position that has not received support from the other 26 member states or the European Commission.
The option of separating Albania from Macedonia "received little or no support", a senior EU diplomat told MIA.
