EU extends economic sanctions against Russia for another six months and threatens it with new measures in case of "aggression" against Ukraine

At the Brussels summit, the heads of state and government of the 27 European Union member states unanimously decided to extend Russia's economic sanctions for another six months. This was announced at a press conference after the meetings of the President of the European Council Charles Michel, reports TACC.

"The leaders of the 27 EU countries have unanimously decided to extend economic sanctions against Russia. We call on her to fulfill her part of the deal and to fulfill the Minsk agreements, "Michel said. He also said that in the event of military action against Ukraine, Russia would face "large-scale consequences and the high cost of this aggression." However, neither he nor European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen have given a specific answer to the question of what exactly the EU will do in such a scenario.

Moscow has repeatedly stressed that the conflict in Donbass is intra-Ukrainian, and Russia, along with the OSCE, France and Germany, is only a mediator in its settlement under the Minsk agreements.

Earlier, a TASS source in the delegation of one of the European countries on the sidelines of the meeting of EU leaders in Brussels said that the sector sanctions will be extended again by 6 months, until July 31. According to the diplomat, in the coming weeks Brussels will officially formalize the decision to extend the sanctions, which will then be published in the Official Journal of the EU and enter into force.
