France has offered Japan to discuss the conditions for conducting regular military exercises

The French government has offered Japan to negotiate an agreement to create conditions for regular joint military exercises, the Sankei Shimbun reported, citing sources.

The editorial board clarifies that it is a matter of agreeing on simplified conditions for transportation of servicemen, weapons and ammunition for joint exercises, exchange of classified information, mutual supply of fuel, as well as other technical support. Currently, Japan, in addition to the United States, has such agreements with Australia, Britain and India.

In May this year, a tripartite exercise of the armed forces of the United States, France and Japan was held on the southwestern Japanese island of Kyushu. An airborne landing with the support of warships was carried out.

Elite units of the United States, France and Japan have also worked together in urban combat. The operation, involving about 220 special forces, simulated the transfer of troops to remote Japanese-controlled remote islands in the East China Sea and claimed by Beijing.

In parallel with these exercises, warships from the three countries conducted joint exercises in the East China Sea. The frigate of the Australian Navy also takes part in them.
