Germany has promised to accept 25,000 refugees who have left Afghanistan, Reuters reports.
"Vulnerable people and refugees at risk are waiting to start a new life in safety and dignity," the agency's December 9 letter to EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ilva Johansson said.
The European Commissioner called on EU member states to fulfill their promises to accept Afghan refugees by 2022, according to which 40,000 people should be accommodated in Europe.
According to the document, 25,000 of them will be located in Germany. More than 3,000 will be accommodated in the Netherlands, more than 2,000 in France and Spain and 2,000 in Sweden.
