The Serbian member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) presidency and leader of the ruling Union of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), Milorad Dodik, told the RS National Assembly that the war option is not what Republika Srpska (RS) relies on in the future. the Belgrade daily Politika quoted him as saying.
"Let's fight for our rights by political means. "RS will not defend itself with military means, even if it is attacked with weapons," Dodik said.
According to him, war is not an option for Republika Srpska.
"BiH is moving in a direction we disagree with. Why can't we have what we signed? One by one, the competencies are moving in favor of BiH, and we do not notice anyone worrying about that. This is how we can answer the question of survival and exit, "Dodik said, addressing lawmakers.
He said the RS would not always get what it wanted, but that did not mean it had to give up, stressing that the RS has a right to its own armed forces under the BiH Constitution.
"Citizens will vote for RS's new constitution in a referendum," Dodik said.
He reiterated that BiH "never had a territory, nor was it internationally recognized", calling it a "paper republic".
