Greek police officer arrested in Turkey

 

A Greek law enforcement officer and a woman who accompanied him were arrested in Turkey during a trip to the country, the online edition of the Athens daily Kathimerini reported, adding that it was not yet known exactly where this had happened. .

The arrest became known when the policeman did not show up for work.

According to unconfirmed information, the man was detained because he entered a military zone on the border near the Maritsa River. However, his family claims he was detained for customs violations.

 The man traveled to the border village of Kipi in the northeastern region of Evros, from where he then continued to Turkey.

The Greek Foreign Ministry has requested official information about the incident from Turkish authorities.
