The United States intends to send troops not to Ukraine but to neighboring NATO countries in the event of a possible Russian invasion. This was announced on Saturday by US President Joe Biden, answering questions from journalists in Wilmington, Delaware, where he spends the weekend, reports TASS.
The head of state was asked why he decided to abandon the idea of deploying US troops in Ukraine in the event of an invasion of the Russian Federation. "This has never been considered," the president replied. "And are you ready to send American troops to war in Ukraine to fight Russia on the battlefield?" The president asked.
During an online summit, he revealed that at an online summit he had told Russian leader Vladimir Putin that in the event of an invasion, US troops would be sent to the Bucharest Nine (B9) countries on the eastern flank of the NATO (Bulgaria, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Estonia). "We will have to send more American and NATO troops to the eastern flank, B9 - all those NATO countries for which we have a sacred obligation to protect them from any Russian attack," the US leader said.
At the same time, he added that the United States "will continue to provide the Ukrainian people with defense capabilities," without specifying their nature.
