In essence, AUKUS is a new Monroe doctrine to contain China and Europe

In essence, the Tripartite Defense Alliance between the United States, Britain and Australia (AUKUS) is a "new Monroe Doctrine" aimed at keeping China and the European Union in the Indo-Pacific region, Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten said. Not only in Beijing, but also in Brussels, there are fears that in the future trade routes for transporting containers from Asia to Europe may be under the full control of the United States, Britain and Australia. The question is whether the Celestial Empire and the EU will be able to unite and oppose this pact.

Against the backdrop of the "Chinese threat", AUKUS is essentially a manifestation of the US will to maintain its dominant position in world politics. And it is no coincidence that the pact was signed in September 2021, because just then, after the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, there was talk of a possible decline of the United States, the media said.

In Europe and China, the news of a new union was met with disapproval, but was welcomed by a number of countries in South and East Asia. In particular, these are countries that see the Celestial Empire as a threat. In response, Beijing adopted indirect sanctions against products from Australia and Japan and conducted military exercises in the South China Sea and near Taiwan.

The lion's share of China's military budget is being spent on modernizing the navy to ensure the security of sea and supply routes, which are important for the implementation of the New Silk Road project. Today, the Celestial Empire has the largest navy in the world. It has 360 warships. By 2025, this number is planned to increase to 400. In addition, Beijing has nuclear-powered submarines, as well as 40 other submarines.

The Marines of the People's Republic of China have begun construction of their third aircraft carrier, three new helicopter carriers, several destroyers and a cruiser. From 2015 to 2018, the Chinese built a total of 132 new ships. At the same time, Beijing would be happy to enter into an alliance with the EU to counterbalance AUKUS, because Brussels is also not happy with the pact. They fear that in the future, commercial shipping routes from Asia to Europe may be under the full control of the United States, Britain and Australia.

In Washington, AUKUS seems to see a kind of "new Monroe Maritime Doctrine" to contain China and the EU in the Indo-Pacific region. It is noteworthy that Australia announced that it was canceling the contract with France for the construction of submarines only a day after Brussels announced its strategy to increase its influence in the region. It is a symbolic act of Australia and the United States that says it all. It remains to be seen whether China and the EU will be able to oppose AUKUS, the media concluded.
