Meta launched its virtual world application on Friday, a step towards the company's announced goal of creating a "metaverse", writes The Hill.
The Horizon Worlds app is available to users over the age of 18 with the Quest 2 headset, a device sold by Meta Oculus affiliates. For users with nearly $ 300 headphones, access to Horizon World will be free, the company said.
At Horizon Worlds, users can explore worlds created by other users and help build more. The company also said it is launching a game with laser tags in the app and creating templates so users can create their own games.
Meta's flagship platform Facebook has been criticized for years for moderating content and the hate speech situation. In a statement Friday, the company said it wanted Horizon Worlds "to be a safe and respectful environment" and that consumers should follow the company's rules of conduct in virtual reality.
The platform also offers security options, including a personal safety zone that allows users to take a break through a menu, as well as block, mute or report people.
