The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), which has focused on fighting terrorism for more than 20 years, is redefining intelligence training and education to focus on Russia and China, CNN reported, citing sources familiar with the situation.
Many former US intelligence officials are talking about the need to return to the traditional "quiet" activities needed to gather intelligence on "complex" countries, particularly China. According to sources, this change will allow the CIA to ensure good intelligence work far beyond the United States, especially in West Africa, where China is actively directing its investments. To improve the efficiency of management, employees will receive training in accordance with their specialization for a specific geographical region. Special attention will be paid to the study of local languages, as well as to solving specific problems that an intelligence officer may face in the long run.
In addition, the CIA intends to attract more mandarin rulers, invest in technology and focus on gathering information about people. How exactly the new CIA methods will affect the work of the department for Russia, the TV channel does not mention.
The service has focused on fighting terrorism since the attacks of September 11, 2001. According to some sources, the new training methods will mark a return to pre-2001 CIA activities.
