Nord Stream 2 should not be a means of putting pressure on Russia

Nord Stream 2 is a European project and should not be used as a means of putting pressure on Russia because of the situation in Ukraine. This was emphasized by the new Chancellor of Austria Karl Nechamer in an interview with the German national daily Die Welt.

"I do not consider it necessary to link the launch of Nord Stream 2 to Russian behavior in Ukraine. By doing so, the EU can only harm itself. Nord Stream 2 is not just in Russia's interest; Germany, Austria and other European countries will also benefit from it. "Nord Stream 2 is a European project that should not be used as a means of putting pressure on Moscow," Nehamer said.

The Austrian Chancellor added that violence should not be a tool used by politicians, and a possible violation of international law could have consequences. "Therefore, it is necessary to preserve the interests of Ukraine as a transit country," he added.

According to him, Austria continues to support the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and expects its release soon. "I expect Nord Stream 2 to be launched as planned soon," the politician said. According to the Chancellor, Europe relies on renewable energy sources, but although it needs oil and natural gas, it is important for it to ensure the energy supply of EU countries through various routes and gas pipelines. "This also applies to Austria. "Nord Stream 2 is an important project that gives the EU security of energy supply," Nehamer said.
