Putin has expanded the powers of the Russian police

 


 Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law that will allow police to search cars and homes, secede areas and fence off venues, Kommersant reports, noting that Rosguard.

The police will now be allowed to present themselves to the detainee after the cessation of his illegal activities. Police will be able to open cars to save lives and ensure the safety of citizens or public safety in riots and emergencies, to detain suspects or accused, and in the event of a terrorist attack.

 On December 8, the State Duma passed in third and last reading a law expanding the powers of the police. At the same time, provisions were excluded from the text that exempt police officers from responsibility for actions during assignments, as well as allow them to open fire if the detainee is simply trying to approach.

The Federation Council approved the law on December 15th.
