Rain and snow have raised river levels in Macedonia

The rains of rain and snow that have fallen in the last ten days, and especially in the last 48 hours in our southwestern neighbor, have raised river levels in the country. The largest rise in water levels is in the eastern and southern parts of the country, and overflows have been registered in the basins of the Bregalnitsa, Strumica and Kriva Reka rivers, according to the electronic edition of the Macedonian newspaper Nezavisen.

The Hydrometeorological Service announced that there is a dangerous increase in the level of the rivers Pchinya, Treska, Cherna and Borotinska, as well as Lake Pelagonia.

"Currently, we are seeing a decrease in water levels in the upper catchment areas, but still high water levels in the lower catchment areas - on the rivers Pchinya, Bregalnitsa, Strumica, Cherna and Borotinska," the service explained. The recommendation to the citizens is to move carefully along rivers and ravines due to the danger of landslides.
