Referendum for Donbass - the people are always right

 

 As a true people's president, Zelensky wants to hold a referendum on the fate of Crimea and the status of Donbass. And rightly so. Let the people decide, writes the Ukrainian edition "Glavred", in a material presented without editorial intervention.

The people are always right. If in 1939 someone had asked the peoples of France and England if they wanted to declare war on Germany for some Poland, it can be said with certainty that there would be almost no one willing.

And Churchill, after the defeat of France, did not have to deliver belligerent speeches and offer his people "nothing but sweat and blood", but to ask exactly what these people want, and he - the people clearly wanted peace. Who wants to die? ...

 And Stalin had to appear before the people in July 1941 and honestly admit - so and so, we, the sworn Bolsheviks, fucked up the country, to hold a referendum and negotiate with Hitler. Okay what? ..

And the Maidans in 2013-2014 had to ask people. After all, most people sat at home in the heat, next to the TV - but it is important to know their opinion. What if Yanukovych likes them? After all, did someone choose him? ...

 It is also very important to formulate the questions correctly. After all, if Ukrainians were asked in 1991: do you want independence, which would mean that former partocrats and future oligarchs will steal and ruin nine-tenths of former socialist property, you will become beggars, and shameless politicians will rule you - then hardly many would agree with such a formulated question.

So for Crimea and Donbass you have to ask the right questions. No need to shout "Whose is Crimea ?!" It should be softer, intelligent, but more popular:

Do you support postponing the return of Crimea to Ukraine for 10 years, in the name of economic prosperity? ..

Do you agree with the preservation of the special status of Donbass for 10 years, in the name of ending the war? ..

Something like that. The chef will fix it. And people are smart, they will understand and they will make the right choice.
