Taiwan fears China could attack them by 2025

China may invade Taiwan by 2025, but is not ready for that now, according to the latest assessment by the Ministry of Defense of the self-governing island, writes the British newspaper The Times.

In a report presented to the island's parliament for a budget review, the ministry said China's People's Liberation Army still did not have enough amphibious ships for a lightning strike to be carried out in a single landing wave, according to Taipei media.

"The (Taiwanese) military is well defending ports and airports and they will not be easily occupied in a short time. "Operations on the island will face extremely high risks," the ministry said.

The report also said that the Chinese military has limited logistical support capacity and that the island's armed forces could disrupt its supply lines by harassing transport ships and planes that Beijing will rely on to send ammunition, food and medicine. of its troops across the Taiwan Strait more than 160 kilometers wide.

The ministry warned that by 2025, China will improve its ability to control water. The Chinese military is rapidly modernizing its fleet, adding larger and more powerful warships to it.

Tensions in the Taiwan Strait are rising. Beijing is sending military planes to explore the airspace near the island almost every day, raising fears that an invasion may soon begin.

Beijing, which considers Taiwan part of China's territory, is committed to "unification" by 2050 and does not rule out the use of force. Nationalist voices calling for the Chinese military to "liberate" Taiwan as soon as possible are growing stronger.

Chinese diplomats have warned Taiwan and its supporters not to underestimate Beijing's determination and ability to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Any military action against Taiwan could accelerate the confrontation with the United States. The United States has a security agreement with the island to provide it with sufficient equipment and technology to deter any Chinese invasion. President Biden said the United States was committed to defending the island.

In China, experts at an annual forum hosted by the Chinese Communist Party's Global Times last weekend say the country will have a better chance of "resolving the Taiwan issue" in three to five years, when it has developed "huge advantages "against the United States in the region.
