Russia will completely stop the transit of gas through Ukraine in the winter

This winter, the transit of gas from Russia through Ukraine may stop. This was stated by the head of the Ukrainian gas transmission system operator (GTS) Sergei Makogon. He noted that the termination of transit is a political issue, not an economic one, the Ukrainian business news agency Liga quoted him as saying.

"We see that in recent months the pressure on Ukraine has intensified in all directions. "There is a cessation of exports of thermal coal to Ukraine from the Russian Federation, and the gathering of troops at the border, as well as blocking the export of coal from Kazakhstan," Makogon said.

Given all these events, it is possible that the transit of gas through Ukraine will be completely stopped, according to the head of the Ukrainian GTS. "Besides, such a move will be open and unjustified aggression. I hope it doesn't get there, "Makogon said.

He believes that if such a scenario develops, the technologically Ukrainian gas transportation system itself will be able to work with the resources it managed to gather before the winter.

"But this only applies to the work of our GTS. "If there is a big shortage of resources in the economy, that will become a big problem," Makogon said.

On October 18, Gazprom did not buy the additional capacity of the Ukrainian gas transmission system. On November 1, the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline was switched to reverse mode. In addition, on November 1, Gazprom cut off gas transit to the European Union through Ukraine.

On November 11, Gazprom returned to the contractual daily volumes of gas transit through Ukraine of 109 million cubic meters of gas per day.
