In response to the decision of the EU summit to extend economic sanctions against Moscow for six months, Russia will extend its countermeasures, said the press secretary of Russian President Dmitry Peskov, quoted by TACC.
"We did not impose the first sanctions and it is not our task to raise this issue. You know that we have and are implementing a whole set of countermeasures. They will also be extended by us in a mirror image," he said.
The Kremlin spokesman stressed that Moscow still considers EU sanctions illegal under international law. And the main thing is that nowhere have the sanctions led the initiators of these sanctions to achieve their goals, "Peskov added.
At the same time, the president's spokesman recalled that Russia "has perfectly adapted to the existing economic conditions" and has learned to take advantage of them "in terms of developing its own production, import substitution, etc."
