The Greek government has decided to increase subsidies for electricity and natural gas bills amid rising energy market prices, according to the online edition of the Greek newspaper Kathimerini.
The publication understands that state subsidies to electricity bills in December will be increased from 39 euros per month for the first 300 kilowatt hours of consumption to 48 euros per month. The subsidy will be financed by the Energy Transition Fund, where the proceeds from the emission allowance auctions go.
The Public Gas Corporation (DEPA) has announced that it has started applying a 16% discount on natural gas use, slightly higher than the originally announced 15%, which is 11 euros per megawatt-hour in October and 15 euros / MWh in November. The discount will be higher in December.
From Monday, December 20, DEPA Commercial will credit the transmission companies for the months of October and November, after which they will apply the discount retroactively for local consumers.
The government is planning more measures to support consumers in the first quarter of next year, although the scope of these measures will be determined by various external factors.
