The tragic example of Yugoslavia shows that if we go through the same thing and know the mentality of our people and not only the Russians but all the peoples living in Russia, the conflicts would be much more dangerous and bloodier than in Yugoslavia. " said Putin.
He added that there was a lot of external pressure on Russia in the 1990s and that the country had lost much of its sovereignty at the time.
"There were many instruments of pressure, Russia was quite weak, it depended on various financial instruments and mechanisms, political and domestic. "Unfortunately, it can be said that Russia then lost most of its sovereignty," Putin said.
He recalled the situation in 1999, when he was prime minister.
