The disintegration of Russia will be much bloodier than that of Yugoslavia

If Russia disintegrates, the consequences will be much more dramatic and bloodier than in the former Yugoslavia, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with Russia 1, Belgrade's Politika reported.

"It can definitely be said that we will feel very bad, we would fight to survive instead of increasing the birth rate. The tragic example of Yugoslavia shows that if we go through the same thing and know the mentality of our people and not only the Russians but all the peoples living in Russia, the conflicts would be much more dangerous and bloodier than in Yugoslavia. " said Putin.

He added that there was a lot of external pressure on Russia in the 1990s and that the country had lost much of its sovereignty at the time.

"There were many instruments of pressure, Russia was quite weak, it depended on various financial instruments and mechanisms, political and domestic. "Unfortunately, it can be said that Russia then lost most of its sovereignty," Putin said.

He recalled the situation in 1999, when he was prime minister.

As for the loss of sovereignty, I saw it when I was prime minister in 1999, when after the start of our hostilities in the North Caucasus, the International Monetary Fund mission demanded that we stop operations, "Putin said.

He added that he had asked the IMF what it had to do with operations in the North Caucasus and had been told it would have a negative impact on the economy.

We claimed that we were strengthening our statehood and therefore creating an opportunity for more efficient work in the economic sphere, but our arguments were ignored, "Putin said.
