The increase in electricity and gas prices in the European Union is due to the Community's environmental development plan - the so-called Green deal implemented by the Commission. This was stated by Czech President Milos Zeman in an interview broadcast on Sunday by CNN Prima NEWS.
"I am convinced that the [current] energy crisis, which is manifested in a 30-70% increase in electricity and gas prices, is primarily caused by the [Green Deal]. [In the situation of rising energy prices] we will be helped by political courage, which, unfortunately, neither the old [government of Prime Minister Andrei Babish] nor the new government [of Peter Fiala, which came to power on December 18], it will help us get rid of [the European destiny set by the EC for EU countries]. "
The project envisages radical reforms in the economy, energy and transport, which must become as green and carbon-neutral as possible. According to preliminary estimates, this will cost EU countries about 3 trillion euros.
The Czech Republic, according to its president, must take care of the realization of national interests and withdraw from the Green Deal project. Zeman recalled that he is a supporter of the development of nuclear energy. He expressed regret that the Prime Minister's Office of the former Prime Minister Babis had delayed the implementation of plans to announce a tender for the construction of a new power unit at the Dukovany NPP and the expansion of the Temelin NPP.
