In the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border, important interests for the national security of the United States and NATO are at stake. This opinion was expressed on Thursday by the chairman of the Committee of Chiefs of Staff (CSTO) of the US Armed Forces, General Mark Millie, answering questions from journalists on board a plane returning from Seoul to Washington, Reuters reports.
The United States, Mili said, sees enough signs of Russian military activity near the Ukrainian border that are of "great concern." According to the general, Russian rhetoric has become increasingly harsh recently. "Significant national security interests of the United States and NATO member countries are threatened if there is a clear act of aggressive military action by Russia against a nation state that has been independent since 1991," Mili argued.
He declined to speculate on what options the United States might consider in the event of an alleged "invasion."
