The German Social Democratic Party (GSDP), which won the country's September 26th parliamentary elections, has nominated Karl Lauterbach as the new health minister, ARD reports.
Lauterbach's candidacy was considered controversial among observers. During the pandemic, the politician regularly appeared on television as an expert. He was often accused of making too radical predictions about the situation, many of which did not come true.
The new government is expected to be sworn in on December 8th. It will also include the Greens and the Free Democratic Party (FDP). The tripartite coalition is the first of its kind in Germany's post-war history.
