The Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs of the Republic of Northern Macedonia (RSM) Nikola Dimitrov met today with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Gabriel Escobar, who is on a working visit to Northern Macedonia, informs tv channel Nova TV.

The European perspective of Northern Macedonia and the region as a common strategic goal, as well as the current situation in this context were discussed at the meeting.

  Deputy Prime Minister Dimitrov thanked the United States for its continued support for European integration, partnership and the country's allied approach to tackling global challenges as an expression of common values.

"We share the same vision for the future of Northern Macedonia and the region, and the support of the United States as our partners and allies has always been the driving force behind the process. The start of accession talks with Northern Macedonia will mark the completion of a chapter on the common strategic goal and create a new impetus for the region's European future as a guarantor of stability and democracy. "Overcoming the current challenges, we will be able to focus on promoting shared values ​​and deepening the partnership in this regard," Dimitrov said.

  Escobar, for his part, underlined Northern Macedonia's commitment as a NATO ally in ensuring regional security and promoting Euro-Atlantic values, stressing the importance of the Prespa Agreement as a pillar of peace and security in the region. He stressed that the leadership and efforts in the reform process must be confirmed by the well-deserved progress in the country's European integration, through the adoption of the negotiating framework and the holding of the first intergovernmental conference in the negotiation process.
