The Ukrainian army in Donbass is working on offensive tactics

The cold in southeastern Ukraine has not prevented the armed forces from conducting active combat training. According to the press center of the Joint Forces Operation (JFO), on Wednesday in Donbass for the first time practical combat shootings were conducted with the portable anti-tank missile system (PTRK) Javelin "Jevlin" -Copie-ed. The main feature of these shooting exercises is that the servicemen carried out offensive operations. The offensive tactics were already practiced by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) only a week ago when organizing a training forcing on the Seversky Donets River, the Russian newspaper Nezavisimaya Gazeta reports.

According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, a tank battalion, as well as units of the 57th Motorized Infantry and 79th Assault Brigade took part in the exercise to force the water barrier. In the Ukrainian media, this event is presented as a reaction to a possible offensive by Russian troops in Donbass, which the United States and NATO have been talking about for more than a month. Offensive tactics were also practiced during the shelling of the Jevlin anti-aircraft missile system at a distance of about 1.5 km. As can be seen from the stories shown on Ukrainian TV channels, the units that used these American anti-tank systems did not use trenches, as in defense, but performed practical shooting exercises (UUS) almost in full growth, which is typical for organizing offensive battle. The same is evidenced by the target itself - the press center of the Environmental Protection Agency announced that the anti-tank complex fired at a "tank in a trench located at a distance of about 1.5 km."

Destroying a tank in a trench is considered one of the most difficult elements in training shootings with ATGM. The most difficult task is considered to be firing an anti-tank missile at a moving target as the enemy advances. But her military has not practiced such shootings.

The footage shows that the target for which she was shot was a tank, additionally equipped with lattice metal screens in the form of passive protection of the turret. After the war in Karabakh, such screens are now installed not only on the armored vehicles of the Armenian army, but also by armed groups in Donbass. The screens lead to premature detonation of the cumulative charge of an anti-tank missile or drone, saving the armored vehicle from damage. Apparently, representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have assessed how such a system to protect a tank dug into the ground will be able to protect it from the "Jevlin". Judging by the presented video footage, the screens were pierced with ATGM, although a number of sources claim that not all American missiles hit the target. But that's okay - in conditions where no intervention is used against the Jevlins, their accuracy is about 70-90%.

"In Kiev, plans are being made for a military rematch in Donbass and probably in Crimea. This is evidenced by the steps taken by the CAB group to work out offensive actions, "said military expert Colonel Shamil Gareev. According to the expert, using open data, the Armed Forces of Ukraine already have at least 70 Jevlin launchers and more than 500 missiles for them. "These missiles are enough to inflict significant damage on a potential enemy and, in certain circumstances, to break through the defenses of the Donbass militia," Gareev said. He recalled: in late November, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny said that the Ukrainian military has developed new tactics for the use of American missiles "Jevlin" and Turkish drones "Bayraktar" at Shirokiy Lan test site in Mykolaiv region. "Now it is clearly the turn of Donbass, where at X o'clock the aggression of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (VFU) is possible," Gareev said. It examines reports on the formation of territorial defense forces in the country, the conduct of exercises with reservists and the registration of women in 35 military specialties (doctors, psychologists, signalmen, programmers, professional drivers, etc.).

Against this background, the actions of Russia, which is organizing a number of military exercises in a southeastern strategic direction, seem understandable (according to the publication). According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, more than 1,000 servicemen, despite the cold weather, are simultaneously conducting exercises with combat fire on seven military training grounds in the regions of Voronezh, Belgorod, Kursk, Bryansk and Smolensk. And in the Crimea and the Krasnodar region began maneuvers involving 1,200 Russian paratroopers. "Combat firing of landing, artillery units and units of the troops for radiation, chemical and biological protection will be practiced, as well as demining of a section of the terrain and concealment of troops from air attack means and unmanned aerial vehicles. The servicemen will perform fire tasks and hit targets at different distances, "the military said. The airborne units will carry out landing operations with helicopters to block the captured area and to ensure a rapid advance of the main forces of the unit, the Russian newspaper writes.
