Israeli media revealed on Friday that the United States had asked Tel Aviv not to conduct any intelligence operations against Iran during ongoing talks between the world powers and Iran over its nuclear program, Israeli daily Yediot Ahronoth reported.
The publication reports that Washington has sent high-level messages to senior Israeli security officials that it opposes any covert operations by the Israeli Mossad intelligence service against Iran while negotiations are underway to prevent their chances of success.
It also said Mossad chief David Barnea would accompany Israeli Defense Minister Benny Ganz during a visit to Washington next week to co-ordinate efforts with the United States on Iran.
Earlier on Thursday, Barnea said Mossad would take all necessary steps to prevent Iran from possessing nuclear weapons.
"Iran will have no nuclear weapons, neither in the coming years nor ever. This is my promise, this is the promise of the Mossad," Barnea was quoted as saying by Yediot Ahronoth.
Barnea added that no country needs uranium enrichment to 60%, except for military purposes, in terms of Tehran's nuclear capacity.
After a five-month hiatus, Iran and world powers began talks in Vienna on Monday in a final attempt to restore the 2015 nuclear deal, which led to the resignation of former US President Donald Trump in May 2018.
